Mathias is a specialist on critical situations and complex problems.

He serves as legal counsel to both national and international companies, as well as to individuals, in all areas relating to white-collar criminal law and German administrative offenses law. Mathias defends his clients in proceedings conducted by prosecutors, regulatory authorities and courts, as well as at criminal trials, during international investigations and in mutual legal assistance (MLAT) procedures.

An additional focus of Mathias's work is internal investigations. He provides comprehensive advice to companies and their boards on the handling of possible compliance violations, frequently in connection with investigations conducted by German and foreign law enforcement and regulatory authorities. As a crisis manager, Mathias organizes the defense of company employees, directors and officers, in addition to advising on challenges in internal and external corporate communication.

Clients facing particular challenges rely on Mathias's advice when those challenges have to do with regulatory questions, issues relating to enforcement and managerial conduct, or with the passage of new legislation. Mathias is also sought out to assist on corporate compliance, e.g., on implementing and optimizing compliance systems, on money laundering prevention and on capital market compliance. In this area of work he does, Mathias concentrates on advising clients how to develop strategies and approaches for avoiding liability risks in connection with business judgements.
